The editorial staff of the ''Novyi mir'' sent out a letter to 15 authors asking for their opinion concerning the relationship between artistic creations and political and social questions. In Stefan Zweig's response to the survey he said that recent Russian novels had more influence in Germany than newspaper reports concerning the current political and social realities of Russia. He also said that contributions from the older as well as the recent literature of Russia were highly respected and he suggested that Russian authors ought to visit Germany as long as possible and Germany authors should likewise visit Russia so as to unite the two countries. | |||
